Frequently Asked Questions about EMS

What is EMS?

EMS – is about the stimulation of the body with low frequency electric impulses during training; this amplifies voluntary muscle contraction.

Is EMS safe?

Yes, as EMS only operates at a muscular level.

Does it Hurt?

No, EMS does not hurt it is more of a gentle vibration as the muscles contract with each pulse.

What do I wear?

For your first visit you will be provided with an undergarment at no charge. The undergarment may be hired for subsequent visits at a cost of $5 per session (alternatively you may purchase a set for $50). All underwear must be removed to enable better conductivity with EMS impulses. You may retain footwear.

What do I bring?

Water in a spill proof bottle and a towel. Showers are available for use after your EMS session

How should I prepare myself before a session?

Please make sure that you have eaten within 2-3 hours of your EMS training session and that you are well hydrated. Please also avoid putting moisturising cream on your body as it prevents the

transmission of the suit’s impulses.

What can I expect when I arrive?

In your first EMS session we will select a training suit that will provide you best form fitting. Suits are available in all sizes and can be adjusted to your body. The pads inside these suits will be wet down with warm water prior to your session.

What happens when we activate the suit?

In your first EMS session we will activate the pads over each of your major muscle groups one at a time. We will be guided by you as far as the intensity is concerned. The Actiwave will remember these settings for subsequent sessions.

What will it feel like?

We use a Safety Protocol for your first session to ensure that your body is capable of tolerating the EMS impulses. That first session is more about experiencing the unique sensation of EMS rather than immediately focusing on muscle strengthening.

How long is the session?

Our EMS sessions are only twenty five minutes long comprising twenty minutes of exercises and a five minute relaxation period where you will lay prone on the floor and let the suit relax the muscles that have been trained.

What do I do after my session?

We recommend that you continue to consume water after your EMS session and eat within one hour after training. Please avoid strenuous exercise the day after your session and gently stretch any sore muscle groups.

Will I be sore after my session?

Like all exercise there will be some soreness however EMS will not leave you feeling excessively sore; in fact, some say they feel invigorated after their session and for a few days after. Please note due to the deep stimulation of your muscles you may not have another EMS session until the third day and you should avoid intense workouts during that period.
